Newcomer Tim Kary Takes two wins
Snetterton Autosport 3 Hour Historic Race Meeting
June 11th – 12th 2011
Nine one litre F3s assembled to try out Snetterton’s new ‘300’ layout, joining them for the first time was Peter Thompson in the Brabham BT21 purchased from David Methley.
Ian Gray was once again quickest overall in qualifying, with Stuart Tizzard being the leading F3 ahead of Tim Kary and debutant Peter Thompson. Leif Bosson in his familiar Brabham BT28 was next with the two Tecnos of Froude and O’Nion closely grouped; Trevor Messett’s Chevron B9 and the Brabhams of Williams and Miller completed the grid.
Race one was short lived as an incident involving the Class G Lotus 59 of Antony Ross brought out the safety car; results being declared after two laps. Tim Kary took Class D from Bosson, Stuart Tizzard having retired on the first lap, Messett was third ahead of the Tecno of O’Nion, Thompson’s Brabham next with Froude, Miller and Williams rounding out the field.
The weather conditions had deteriorated considerably for race two with heavy rain and standing water being the dominant features; just four F3s took the start, Kary, Bosson, O’Nion and Froude. Trevor Messett’s Chevron had succumbed to the water as he returned to the paddock after the first race and could not be revived to start the second. Kary briefly took the overall lead before Ian Gray restored order; conditions were atrocious, and all who took part did well to come home in one piece. Kary took another win ahead of Bosson, O’nion and Froude.
Brands Hatch (July 1st-3rd) brings the next Peter Hanson Championship round at the SuperPrix Meeting, hopefully under cloudless skies.
